HIV
PREVENTION & CARE
HIV is more than just a virus—it’s a reality that affects millions of lives. But here’s the good news: knowledge is power. Understanding how it spreads, how to prevent it, and how to support those living with it makes all the difference.
The more we talk about HIV openly and honestly, the closer we get to breaking down stigma and building a healthier, more informed world.
Because awareness isn’t just about knowing—it’s about caring, taking action, and making a change.

Global Impact: HIV remains a major global public health issue, with an estimated 39.9 million people living with HIV by the end of 2023 (World Health Organization [WHO], 2024; UNAIDS, 2024).
Transmission: HIV is transmitted through certain body fluids such as blood, breast milk, semen, and vaginal fluids. It is not spread through casual contact like kissing, hugging, or sharing food (HIV.gov, n.d.; Verywell Health, 2023).
Stages of Infection: Over time, HIV weakens the immune system. If left untreated, it can progress to AIDS—the most advanced stage of HIV infection (WHO, 2024; Cleveland Clinic, n.d.).
Prevention: Safe sex practices, regular HIV testing, and the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) significantly reduce the risk of HIV transmission (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], n.d.).
Treatment: Although there is no cure for HIV, ART enables people living with the virus to lead long and healthy lives by effectively suppressing the virus. Achieving viral suppression is key both to treatment success and to preventing the sexual transmission of HIV (WHO, 2024; Philippine Information Agency [PIA], 2024).
Global Goals: By 2025, the global goal is that 95% of people living with HIV will know their status, 95% of those diagnosed will be receiving treatment, and 95% of those on treatment will achieve viral suppression (PIA, 2024).
